Babeș-Bolyai University, in collaboration with Romanian – U.S. Fulbright Commission is welcoming you to the second series of Interactive Lectures with Fulbrighters, an event aiming to promote exchange of ideas and good practices in research and education among Fulbright scholars and members of Romanian academic community.
The hosts of the event are Fulbright Alumnus Mihai B. Iovu, PhD, Associate Professor (Faculty of Sociology and Social Work, UBB) and Fulbright Ambassador for the Romanian academic environment Alina S. Rusu, PhD, Associate Professor (Faculty of Psychology and Sciences of Education, UBB.
When: June 13, 2019, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Entrance to the event is free.
Where: Faculty of Sociology and Social Work, December 21st, 1989 Blvd., No. 128, Cluj-Napoca, Forth floor, the Room behind the Amphitheatre.

- Margareta M. Thomson, PhD, Associate Professor, College of Education, North Carolina State University/Raleigh, U.S., Fulbright Scholar in Romania 2018-2019. Title of presentation: “STEM motivation and growth mindset: A mentorship program approach”

Speakers’ biographical notes
Dr. Rebecca Davis is Director of the Office of Global Programs, School of Social Work, Rutgers University. She teaches social work foundation, clinical practice, and global social work courses. In addition, she supervises student internships in Romania, Israel, and Mexico. Her global work focuses on social work education and child protection system strengthening in Eastern Europe and Sub Saharan Africa. Her recent work included a social service workforce assessment in Eastern Europe, strengthening case management services in Nigeria, Malawi, Swaziland, and Namibia, and evaluation of child protection reforms in Ghana. She authored a Case Management Toolkit for evaluating child welfare case management services in the former Soviet Bloc countries. She served as a Fulbright Scholar to Romania from 1992-94 and implemented a major child welfare reform project for World Vision Romania and USAID in 1998-2002. She currently serves as Chair of the Steering Committee of the Global Social Service Workforce Alliance and represents the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) to the United Nations in the New York Headquarters.
Dr. Margareta Thomson has a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Learning Systems from Florida State University. Her professional experience includes teaching at the K-12 and college level, both in the United States and Romania. Dr. Thomson is currently teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Educational Psychology in the College of Education at North Carolina State University. In addition to her teaching, she is involved in research exploring teachers’ motivations, expectations, values and classroom practices using primarily a mixed-methods approach. Her research particularly investigates teachers’ motivations and beliefs applied to STEM learning and professional development.
