The Summer Academy is the result of several years of cooperation between the three universities, especially in the fields of history and cultural studies. The first editions of the Summer Academy were held in 2016 in Tübingen (Diversity and Empire: The Habsburg Monarchy in the “long” 19. Century) and in 2017 in Budapest (Nation/ State/ Diversity in the Danube Region, 1918–1948).
The main focus of the Summer Academy is directed on the particular experiences of the Danube Region with ‘diversities’ from a historical perspective – understood not as a problem, but one of the regions advantages. It is structured by key notes of distinguished scholars, participants’ presentations of current research projects and work-shops conducted on texts and essential literature connected to the fields of the key notes and presentations.
