The BBU students won the national finals of the CFA Institute Research Challenge

Cluj-Napoca, 3th March 2022

The students of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (BBU) won the national finals of the prestigious competition CFA Institute Research Challenge, on Saturday, 26th February 2022.

At this year’s edition, approx. 30 students from 9 faculties in Romania and the Republic of Moldova participated.

The BBU-FSEGA team, including students Anastasia Morariu (specialisation Banks and Capital Markets, 2nd year), Anamaria Sîntoma (Banks and Capital Markets, 2nd year), Alexandru Stroilă (Finance and banking – English, 3rd year), Cristian Ciceu (Economics and International Business – English, 3rd year) și Denisa Marc (Economics and International Business – English, 3rd year), was coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Miruna Pochea (FSEGA, Finance Department), and by mentor Irina Răilean (CFA Romania Association).

The students from Cluj elaborated a report of financial research offering an investment recommendation in the OMV Petrom company. The report was successfully presented in front of a jury of experts in the field of investments, members of the CFA Association Romania, member organisation of the CFA Institute (USA).

The winning team will participate in the sub-regional finals of the CFA Institute Research Challenge.

The BBU team, coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Miruna Pochea, won the four national annual stages of the competition in Romania (2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022).

CFA Institute Research Challenge is a competition addressed to the most prestigious schools of international business, with a thematic based on the CFA curricula, considered the highest professional standard in investment analysis and research. Every year, this contest includes over 6.200 students from over 1.100 universities around the world.

The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration is currently the biggest faculty in Romania, with over 9.300 students enrolled in the 2021-2022 academic year, in all types and levels of study, with ca. 350 academic and research staff, of whom over 200 are permanent. According to the most recent international ranking by fields of science, run by QS, BBU is in the top 450 best universities in the world in Social Sciences & Management, and in Business & Management Studies, ranking the best among Romanian higher education institutions in the QS ranking by fields.
