UBB launches the new Master’s programme “Data Science for Industry and Society”

The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (UBB) is launching the Master’s programme Data Science for Industry and Society, training students for the jobs of the future, offering them the opportunity to get technical certifications that are in high demand on the labour market.

The courses begin in October 2022, when the 2022-2023 academic year will be inaugurated. The best students will have access to the paid internship within Banca Transilvania.

Babeș-Bolyai University is supported by two of its partners in developing this programme: SAS – the global leader in Advanced Analytics, and Banca Transilvania – the largest bank in Romania. Together they intend on training experts in data engineering and contribute to the development of the Romanian IT ecosystem by developing skills in advaced data analysis and data science according to the European Qualifications Framework.

The Master’s programme addresses both fresh graduates and experts who want to gain skills in data collection, processing and interpretation within organisations. The innovative curriculum adds to the development of skills for information analysis with instruments specific to Artificial Intelligence, within some projects with real data coordinated by experts in the academic and in the industrial fields.

At the same time, the programme has two SAS specialisations – Advanced Analytics and Data Science, and offers a highly-demanded certificate in the industry, like: Visual Business Analytics, Statistical Business Analyst, SAS Programming Specialist, Machine Learning Specialist or Nature Language Processing and Computer Vision.

The study programme is held in English, for two years and it offers several opportunities to access internships at Banca Transilvania and other stakeholders in the business.

UBB opens an innovative study programme maximising on the experience of the largest doctoral school of Artificial Intelligence in Romania, as well as a top ecosystem in information technology, while SAS gives access to an innovative academic programmes through SAS Academic Programs.

Data science is an emerging interdisciplinary field with the potential of revolutionising almost any industry and impacting society in a positive way. The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, with its experts in the field and by collaborating with specialists in the industry, will contribute to gaining necessary knowledge and skills for those wanting to excel in this field, said Prof. Anca Andreica, dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science.
