Exponentially increasing number of visitors at the BBU “Alexandru Borza” Botanical Garden

In 2021, the number of visitors to cross the gates of the “Alexandru Borza” Botanical Garden of Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (BB) grew by over 65% compared to 2020.

According to recorded data at the end of last year, in 2021, the number of visitors to the Botanical Garden was close to 170.000.

“Although the COVID-19 pandemic still strongly impacted our daily lives, the ”Alexandru Borza” Botanical Garden of BBU managed to adapt its activity to the new conditions, and offer all visitors a well-deserved escapade into the world of plants, at the very core of Cluj-Napoca. The new collections of plants, events organised to promote the vegetal or cultural patrimony constantly attracted the attention of the wide public. Most visitors came in spring, when most of our bulbous plants blossomed (tulips, hyacinths, crocuses, daffodils etc.). This remarkable collection (of over 30.000 planted bulbs) drew in a general public, with records of over 5.500 visitors per day. As such, we were honoured to receive the “Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best” distinction on behalf of the greatest social trips website in the world, in 2021. All this shows that we continue to be one of the most important cultural and educational destinations in this part of the country”, said the director of the “Alexandru Borza” Botanical Garden, Assoc. Prof. Mihai Pușcaș.
