UBB, partner in a project on transfer of innovative technology and advanced materials in visual arts

A group of academic and researchers from the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology and from the Faculty of Economics and Business Management of Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca (UBB) partnered up with Bio Nera Plant S.R.L. in a project on the transfer of innovative technologies and advanced materials in the field of visual arts (production, preservation, restoration).

In partnership with minimum 10 companies, the UBB-TeMATIC-Art project aims to develop, through transfer of knowledge and expertise (insured by the project’s interdisciplinary team), new/improved, innovative products and services in the field of visual arts (production, preservation, restoration), for a period of 72 months.

One of the companies participating in the project is BIO NERA PLANT (www.neraplant.ro), a producer of handcrafted ceramics, natural cosmetics and food products, launched as a model of social entrepreneurship by one of the nuns at the Nera Monastery in Caraș-Severin county who developed several bio, eco or vegan products, as well as ceramics produced entirely by the nuns at Nera Monastery; the revenue from selling such products was employed entirely to supporting disadvantaged people.

The activity within the project is currently unfolding on three major directions of RD skills transfer and supporting innovation:

  • Transfer of RDI skills and supporting innovation in visual arts production by improving the company’s processes, including by guaranteeing the development of digitalisation;
  • Transfer of RDI skills and supporting innovation in the production of handmade ceramics.

Through their industrial research carried on in efficient collaboration, the academia of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering will offer the necessary expertise to the company in order to optimise and improve the technological process in the production of ceramics at Bio Nera Plant S.R.L.; the academia of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology will do research on ways to improving the elements of design, while the academic in teh field of economics and informatics will insure the improvement of the company’s processes as a whole.
