The Ambassadors of France and Germany at UBB: visit at the Rectorate and Round Table on the future of Europe

19.01. 2024

Monday, 22 January, Prof. Daniel David, Rector of Babeș-Bolyai University, will receive the visit at UBB of His Excellency Nicolas Warnery, Ambassador of the French Republic to Romania, and His Excellency Peer Gebauer, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Romania.

After the visit, the two Ambassadors will participate to the Round Table „France, Germany and the future of the European Union”

Sixty-one years after the signing of the Élysée Treaty, it is timely to reflect on the dynamics of Franco-German relations and the crucial role of the Franco-German couple in the construction of Europe. This historic partnership, initiated in 1963, has made a major contribution to European integration and to the stability of the continent.

Looking at the current situation of the European Union, we find ourselves at a pivotal moment. Do we see the EU as at a crossroads, facing an impasse, or do we see it as a crucial opportunity for reform and relaunch? This question is of vital importance in an ever-changing political, economic and social context.

His Excellency Nicolas Warnery, Ambassador of the French Republic to Romania, and His Excellency Peer Gebauer, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Romania, will discuss these issues.

Moderator: Sergiu Miscoiu, Professor at the Faculty of European Studies (UBB)

Introductory speeches:

Christian Săcărea, Vice-Rector of the UBB

Adrian Corpădean, Dean of the Faculty of European Studies
